Solitude in the Storm
Solitude in the Storm

Absent from the Wedding Feast
... Living so close to the cold, you feel spring. And this is man's mission! The earth can not feel all this. We must. But living away from the earth and the trees, we fail them. We are absent from the wedding feast.
There are moments of great loneliness and lostness in this solitude, but often then come other, deeper moments of hope and understanding, and I realize that these would not be possible in their purity, their simple, secret directions anywhere but in solitude. I hope to be worthy of them ...
From Thomas Merton's journal entry for February 17, 1966, VI. 18-19.
The silence could be felt this morning. I'm glad I stopped by Bellevue Beach Park on the way to work.

Covenant First
Originally uploaded by Scott Dungan.
For our weekly photo walk. Riley and I took pictures near Covenant First Presbyterian Church in downtown Cincinnati. This is an amazing church. The stained glass in the window depicts Christ praying. The Holy Spirit (as a dove) is at the top of the window. D.G. and I got to tour the church on Thursday. The light on the inside was almost as brilliant as the light outside.

Lost in thought
Lost in thought

Riley and I go on assignment every Saturday. We sit at our favorite coffee house and decide what we are going to take pictures of. Lately we have been going to the Krohn. She likes taking pictures of the flowers. I like watching her take her pictures. These days are a gift. I'm enjoying every one of them.

On Assignment
On Assignment

Riley wanted to take pictures of pretty flowers. We spent the morning at the Krohn. I got a kick out of watching her compose images of the pretty flowers. There were at least 10 "photographers" in the room. I could tell they were photographers from the photo vests they were wearing. I suspect her pictures are just as good as the majority of shooters in the room.
