Couldn't resist a photo drive by. I was having coffee with some friends at Startbucks. We spotted this in the lot. The driver was getting coffee. So we took a couple of photos. Thanks Lamborghini man.
THe conservatory was closed today. They are getting ready for the Butterfly show.
I took this in September of 2001. The bridge is going to be shut down in the fall of 2006 for repairs. I called this the Singing bridge when I was younger. The roadway is a open steel grid. It makes the tires on your car hum when you cross it.
I'm posting it here. It made one of the 500 most interesting pictures on Flickr for April 21st.
Went to Eden Park for lunch. Work has been a bit stressful lately. It's nice to get out of the office. It was a nice warm day. There were plenty of people out enjoying the park. The tulips are in full bloom.
I took this on September 20th, 2001. You can't tell from the picture that our world had changed. My friends were being activated to go fight in Afghanistan. The tech bubble had burst. I wasn't sure if I would have a job. It was a very stressful time. It really shows in the photo huh?
On our California trip. I got to visit the Wrigley Ranch "El Rancho Escondido". The Wrigley's keep Arabian horses there. The presence of these animals in a word is regal. Hilary couldn't join me on the trip. She was pregnant with Paige. The roads were pretty bad to the ranch. To bad because it was a lovely day. I got to see where my mother inlaw grew up.
Riley had a little to much fun tonight. A slip in the park. Lots of laughs. We all had a great time.
We went to Eden Park this evening. Riley befriended this little girl. She is three also. For the next 10 minutes they ran around, looking, and playing. The world would be a better place if we took a lesson from little children from time to time.
To sleep like a baby. Paige was crashed out on the living room floor. It must be nice to be able to sleep anywhere.
At the Hanson's annual Easter egg hunt Riley cleaned up. When there's candy involved stay out of her way. It was a great time. Thanks Kevin and Karen!
1Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw that the stone had been removed from the entrance. 2So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, "They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they have put him!"
For Good Friday we all went to the Conservatory. The flowers were lovely. Riley and Paige little angels.
We only spent one night in Cambria. We were traveling up the coast from San Diego to San Francisco. Cambria is a interesting place. My cellphone didn't work there. The pace was slow and relaxed. Hilary and I didn't want to leave. When I lived in California. I traveled past Cambria without every stopping. I'm glad I stopped this time.
Even with great weather in Cincinnati these past couple of days. I'd rather be California dreaming.
Saturday, Riley and I hit the McDonalds drive through for lunch. We were in line when Riley did her now famous. Dad can I ask you a question bit. This usually means she has some very important topic she wants to discuss. I'm in trouble because she is only three. Any how. "Dad can I ask you a queation?" Sure Riley what is it? "Did Jesus die?" I'm now turned around in my seat. Yes Riley Jesus died. But that's only part of the story. Where did you hear this? "My friend Oscar." Oscar is one of her imaginary friends. So I told her the Easter story. That Jesus died for us and three days later God raised him from the dead and after spending some more time with his disciples he went to heaven. I told her that because of Easter we have hope for the future. All while in line for a Happy Meal.
The past few weeks have been a blur. My second daughter was born on February 24th. The same day my father died. Two weeks later to the day a friend and co-worker died. So what’s been going through my mind… last words. The last thing my father said to me was “I know you”. We had just gotten him settled into his bed. There were lots of people gathered around who he didn’t recognize. He recognized me though. He was so tired after that he went to sleep. I never got to talk to him again. The last words from my friend Chad were left on my cell phone. He was in the hospital. He thanked me for praying for him. He said it meant a lot. He also congratulated me on the birth of my daughter and consoled me on the death of my dad. Five days later he was perfected.
Today I went to the Krohn conservatory for lunch. It was nice just walking around. Looking at the flowers. It was a bit over cast which makes for perfect picture taking. This was one of the orchids I saw.
Each star represents 100 lives lost in defense of freedom. There are 4,000 stars on this wall. My father was a WW2 vet. When I showed him this photo. He cried. His comment was "I'm not sure what we gained in losing all of those people." My father took part in the invasions of Normandy, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. I felt I learned more about him and his experiences from his reaction to this photo. Than from the few conversations we ever had about the war.
I was listening to a pod cast last week. The speaker talked about how we have become human doings. I agree. I believe we all do to much. So I'm going to make a conscious effort to be a human being. I've added it to my calendar. I just hope I'll have the time to do it.
